Book design and page layout for The Waterhouse Albums and The Marshall Albums.

Client: The Alkazi Collection of Photography (editorial) and Mapin Publishing (publisher)

Details: The Waterhouse Albums (978-81-89995-30-0, 2009, 264 pages) and The Marshall Albums (978-81-89995-32-4, 2010, 288 pages) ∙ Hardcover ∙ 274x240mm

This pair of monographs presents 18th and 19th century photographs from the collection of the Alkazi Foundation of Photography, accompanied by essays with notes and appendices. The design was required to be photography-focused with a simple layout that could be followed as a series. As academic books with an archival focus on publishing these images for the first time, they needed to have a serious tone and have distinct captions that were easy to read.
